PAINTERLY SCANDINAVIAN PORTRAITS IN STUDIO

I am constantly fine-tuning my style of photography particularly in portraiture. I love the look of old paintings and I feel that this is the way my style should be going. Lighting is very simple that I base on two principles:

  1. Big light source placed as close to the model as possible creates the softest and most pleasing look.
  2. Some sort of reflection is needed on the shadow side of the face to make the light graduation more even.

I also favour textured canvas backgrounds over paper backgrounds that we are used to seeing everywhere. The one in my images is a 3m x 3m canvas background, hand-painted with different shades of grey.
